Residents and businesses must sign up for the city's locked natural gas rates by Dec. 31.
Through a marketing agreement called Direct Choice, the city is offering Direct Energy's natural gas service to residents and small businesses located within the city limits.
The city has set a stable price of $7.55 per Mcf for gas from January to October 2010.
The new price replaces the current price of $8.05 per Mcf, which will expire with the December 2009 service cycle.
A senior citizen discount is available for customers 65 and older who own their residence.
Customers can sign up by Dec. 31 by calling Direct Energy's customer service department at 1-866-803-4618, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We encourage our residents and small businesses to take advantage of the Direct Choice program," said City Manager Anthony Bales.
Participants must have a residence or business in Hudson and be eligible to participate in the state's customer choice program.
"By enrolling in Direct Choice, customers gain peace of mind in knowing that the price cannot go up during the winter months when natural gas is in peak demand," said Mike Beck, vice president for Direct Energy. "It also allows customers to plan ahead for their winter heating needs."
Residents must enroll in the Direct Choice Program to receive this price.
If residents are already under contract with another supplier, but wish to enroll with Direct Energy, they are encouraged to review their current contract to determine if they will be charged an early cancellation fee to switch suppliers.
