Hudson City School District lunch menus

The following are lunch menus for East Woods and Hudson elementary schools:

East Woods Elementary School entrees:

Nov. 9 -- Hearty chicken noodle soup with twisted cheese sticks (alternative: Tyson chicken nuggets)

Nov. 10 -- Chicken and cheese quesadillas (alt: Chipotle bar)

Nov. 11 -- Spaghetti with marinara sauce (alt: Meatball sub)

Elementary schools (Evamere, Ellsworth Hill, McDowell) entrees:

Nov. 9 -- Mini chicken sliders with string cheese, veggies and dip, lunch bunch grapes (alt: Chicken patty on wheat)

Nov. 10 -- Corn dog, baked beans, fresh fruit, yogurt cup (alt: Bosco cheese stick with dip)

Nov. 11 -- Penne pasta with meatballs, tossed salad, bread stick, fresh fruit (alt: Egg and cheese sandwich)

Nov. 9 -- Assorted cereals, mini muffin, fruit

Nov. 10 -- IW waffle, string cheese, 4-ounce juice

Nov. 11 --Assorted whole grain cereals, oatmeal raisin square, fruit

There is no school on Nov. 12 and 13. Hudson Middle and High School have restaurant style menus for breakfast and lunch. Visit the school district Web site at www.hudson.edu for more information.

November is pie month for Market Day

November is Market Day Pie Sale month. For every pie ordered, Hudson Community First will profit an extra $1.75. Proceeds from the additional pie sales will benefit the outdoor activity area on Veterans Way which will feature two outdoor basketball courts. The Community First Market Day sale pick up date is Nov. 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Market Day facility on Industrial Pkwy off of Terex Road Nov. 10.

County prosecutor
talks about safety

The Hudson PTO and Hudson elementary schools will host a series of dialogues about safety. Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh will lead the discussions and answer questions at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sessions will be broadcast on HCTV.

Dialogues will include:

* Dec. 10 -- General safety for protection from sexual assaults, home burglaries, car jackings, etc.; and

* Jan. 12 -- Teaching students how to be safe on the Internet.

U.S. Naval Academy hosts session

High school students interested in the U.S. Naval Academy are invited to attend an admissions information session at Twinsburg High School, 10084 Ravenna Road, Nov. 23 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Middle school students also are encouraged to attend.

The Naval Academy, located in Annapolis, Md., is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the country. Students selected to become Midshipmen can be granted a $380,000 scholarship, earn a bachelor of science degree and a commission in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.

The Naval Academy offers 22 majors in humanities, math and sciences and engineering. Naval Academy Midshipmen have access to some of the country's top research facilities and opportunities to travel during summer training programs.

Midshipmen and admissions officers will be present to speak and answer questions.

Additional information events are scheduled throughout Northeast Ohio, including: North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., Canton, Nov. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.; and the Naval Officers Programs Office, Ground Floor Conference Room, 7123 Pearl Road, Middleburg Heights, Nov. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

PTA begins 'Healthy Home' series Nov. 11

The Hudson Parent Teacher Association's first presentation of its "Healthy Home" series will be Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Flood Room at the Hudson Library and Historical Society.

The topic will be healthy food choices and how to bring fitness into the home. Personal trainer Grace Reichard, who is also the owner of "Body by Grace," will demonstrate exercises for the whole family.

LeAnn DiBiase, a registered nutritionist, will provide a cooking demonstration with recipes for quick, healthy, on-the-go breakfasts and packed lunches.

In addition, pediatrician Sarah Adams will lead a discussion on food allergies.

Healthy refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Program explores estate planning for kids

The Northern Summit County Parent Mentor Informational Series will offer "What you Need To Know About Guardianship, Special Needs Trusts and Estate Planning for Your Child" Nov. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at R.B. Chamberlain Middle School, 10270 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg. The guest speaker is attorney Barbara Weinschenk.

Talk with School Board members Nov. 16

The Hudson Board of Education is initiating a new way for residents, parents and staff and students to informally communicate with the Board. Beginning Nov. 16 from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson High School media center, the Board will conduct the first in a series of four "Gold Mining Sessions" prior to Board of Education meetings.
