E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron was filled with wizards, Star Wars characters, aliens and more Oct. 25 for The Akron Symphony Orchestra's "Film Music Fantasies."

The hourlong concert featured selections from the musical scores of such blockbuster film franchises as "Star Wars," "Harry Potter," "Star Trek," "The Lord of the Rings," "Superman," "Spider-man," "The Wizard of Oz" and "Twilight." The concert was conducted by associate conductor Christopher James Lees. There also were activities before the concert, including a costume contest, a coloring table and an "instrument petting zoo," where guests could try their hand at playing a musical instrument.

Upcoming concerts

The Akron Symphony Orchestra will next play Nov. 14 at E.J. Thomas at 8 p.m., in "Verdi e Puccini: Great Moments in Italian Opera." The concert will also feature the Akron Symphony chorus, and feature guest vocalists Angela Gwinn, Daniel Doty, and Brian Keith Johnson.
