Wrestlers participate in
Wilmington camp
Seven members of the Team Kratos Wrestling Club in Hudson recently attended the Chertow Wrestling Camp in Wilmington.
They were accompanied by coaches Scott Slater and Doug Williams at the five-day event.
Attending this year's camp as guest instructors included NCAA All-American Pat DeGain, who is an assistant coach for Indiana University and NCAA All-American, and Scott Henkell who is the head coach of Purdue (Ind.) University.
Several current collegiate wrestlers also were in attendance to provide small group instruction.
"Summer wrestling camps have become a critical component for athletes in this sport," coach Doug Williams said. "These camps provide our youth wrestlers with an opportunity to broaden their wrestling experience in a very short period of time."
Team Kratos also plans to attend a second week of summer training in July at State College, Pa., with Chertow Camps.
Duo honored for
lacrosse efforts
Hudson residents Mike Klaus and George Wright recently were named to the Ohio High School Lacrosse Association Division II 2009 All-Ohio Team 3.
Klaus, a defenseman, and Wright, an attackman, played for the Walsh Jesuit boys lacrosse team during the spring.
Winters helps
national team
Hudson graduate Brian Winters played guard for the United States team during its lopsided 78-0 win over France in a first-round game in the inaugural International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship tournament June 27 at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.Winters is expected to play football at Kent State University.
Residents play golf
Hudson resident Tricia Maloney placed first in the girls 16-to-19 age group with a 70 (36-34) at the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf Kenny Novak qualifier June 26 at Mill Creek Park Golf Course in Boardman.
Other Hudson residents who competed are listed by age group:
Boys (age 13 to 15): Jackson Stroup, fifth, 77 (38-39); Kevin Kubik, tied for 12th, 83 (38-45); Vincie Ripepi, tied for 22nd, 91 (45-46); and Alexander Kubik, 24th, 92 (45-47)
