Johnson fares well for Notre Dame Hudson graduate Cole Johnson, a sophomore right-hander on the Notre Dame (Ind.) University baseball team, finished 7-3 in 2009. He started 14 games and made 15 appearances. Johnson had an earned run average of 4.47 and threw two complete games. Opponents hit just .249 against him as he allowed 87 hits in 94-2/3 innings. Johnson struck out 64 batters and walked 36.
Duo competes in U.S. Open qualifier Hudson residents David Engram and Sam Scala competed at the United States Open local qualifying event May 12 at Beechmont Country Club in Cleveland. Neither golfer qualified. Engram shot a 77 and Scala scored an 84.
Quartet races in Gates Mills Four Hudson residents competed in the second annual Race for Green 5K River Run & Walk May 30 in Gates Mills. Darla Keefer, 49, placed ninth in the female 45-to-49 age group and 184th overall with a time of 35 minutes, 55 seconds. Doug Harvey, 32, finished first in the male 30-34 age group and 10th overal (19:00). William Keefer, 45, took 16th in the male 45-49 age group and 163rd overall (32:25).
