Laurel Lake Retirement Community will host an intergenerational poetry reading event called "Creative Voice" May 21 at 3 p.m. in the Community Room.

The program is part of the Keys to A Sharp Mind lifelong learning program, funded by a grant from the Reinberger Foundation.

Nationally known poet and Kent State English instructor Katherine Blackbird and her students from Laurel Lake Retirement Community and Kent State University will share lyrical prose and poetry readings. This program is the culmination of three creative writing courses taught by Blackbird and clinical psychologist Dr. Paula Hartman-Stein during the past year at Laurel Lake.

The readings will be accompanied by the music of innovative Kent musician, Hal Walker, a veteran performer who improvises on the piano, guitar, harmonica and other instruments from around the world. The event is free and open to the public.
