by Laura Freeman Reporter Hudson -- Council approved a 3 percent raise for one of its unions, which is in alignment with previously approved raises for other employees. Twenty city employees who are part of the Utility Workers Local Union 588 received a 3 percent raise when Council April 15 unanimously approved a new contract, according to Jody Roberts, city communications manager. Union members approved the Utility Workers Local Union tentative agreement March 26, Roberts said. The raise will be effective May 1, according to Roberts. Members of the Utility Workers Union will receive a 3 percent raise in 2010 and a 3.25 percent raise in 2011. Council in 2008 approved a similar contract with the Teamster's union, which has 32 city employees, Roberts said. It also approved a 3 percent cost of living raise in 2009 for its 76 non-bargaining city employees. Council members must approve a new contract for the 21 members of the Fraternal Order of Police union at the end of 2010, Roberts said. Assistant City Manager Paula Ryan said the pay increase generally is a cost of living adjustment. The city looks at what the unions will receive when considering raises for non-bargaining employees, she said. E-mail: lfreeman@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3150 Comments
