Akron - The American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties announced March 16 the elimination of 10 jobs and changes in services offered through the Chapter's Akron and Ravenna locations, as part of a reorganization to respond to the difficult economic conditions. The restructuring cut 10 jobs and created three new positions that "more closely align with the chapter's current activities." Also, the Chapter's financial assistance program for veterans will end on April 1, and emergency communications for military families will be outsourced to a Red Cross call center, rather than be handled by local staff. "The Red Cross is not immune to the downturn that is affecting most organizations and we must make every effort to ensure we continue to operate as efficiently as possible so that we are prepared to help those who continue to depend on us," said Chapter CEO Toby Ann Weber.
