by Tim Troglen Reporter Hudson -- In 2007, Allstate Insurance announced 300 jobs would be lost when its Executive Parkway claim center completed restructuring at the end of this year. But thanks to advance notice to employees and a further re-tooling of the department, that number has been cut almost in half. According to Lee Ann Welsh, regional communication manager for Allstate, the company has issued notices to 159 of its 1,500 employees that their positions will by cut by Dec. 31 because the company has switched to an express claims system. "We are not closing a building, an office or the department," Welsh said. The majority of the employees whose jobs will be impacted are in accounting, information technology and risk management, Welsh said. She said the employees have been offered the chance to apply for other positions in the company, including 80 new ones it expects to add in Hudson. A "restructuring of the company is going to bring an additional 80 jobs to Hudson as well," she said, which the employees have been encouraged to apply for. "And these positions may be filled as soon as the end of the year," Welsh said. Communications Manger Jody Roberts said the city was disappointed by the layoff announcement. "[But] we have been assured by Allstate that they are committed to Hudson as a location for their business," Roberts said. "We have had an excellent relationship with Allstate, and we look forward working with them now and in the future." Roberts said the exact financial impact on the city is not known. "However, put in perspective, we do not believe that this will significantly impact our revenues," she said. "In addition, we feel strongly that the company is committed to remaining in Hudson."
