The Hudson Parent Teacher Association will host a "Living the Good Life" health and wellness fair and general meeting Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Woods Elementary School commons. "The National PTA has designated the month of November as Healthy Lifestyles Month, and local PTA organizations across the nation are promoting healthy lifestyles with a variety of events," said Hudson PTA President Liz Dawson. "Our PTA's 'Living the Good Life' health and wellness fair will support that initiative by providing a broad range of activities, information and resources to inform parents, children, educators and the community about families adopting healthy habits together." The fair, which is free and open to the community, will offer a variety of activities, including interactive fitness demonstrations about yoga with Larry Terkel, family fitness at home with Grace Reichard, owner of Body by Grace, and "Stepping and Jumping Body Rhythm" by LifeCenter Plus personal trainers. Speakers will give presentations on several health-related topics. Dr. Sarah Adams will speak on "Your Whole Health" and present information on the body's nutritional and fitness needs, prevention of Type 2 diabetes and childhood obesity. Dr. Adams, PTA's health, wellness and safety chairperson, will speak about exercise and fitness for kids who are less active or who choose not to participate in organized sports. Maureen Faron, food service director for Hudson City Schools, will speak on "Nutrition and the School Health Index," with tips on getting kids to eat right at home and at school. Faron also will have information on the future assessment of health at the schools. Marie Yeh, executive firector of the Coalition for Children's Mental Health, will speak on "Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques." The fair also will offer blood pressure measurement, activity zones, healthy food samples, label reading and games. Featured business/organization exhibitors include Akron Children's Hospital, American Dairy, Avenues of Counseling and Mediation, Body by Grace, Coalition for Children's Mental Health, Gordon PTO, Hudson PTO, LifeCenter Plus, Novonor Disk, Yoga by Larry Terkel and others.
