Learn about 'Word'

HCER will offer a Word III class designed to teach participants the ins and outs of the Word computer program. The instructor is Carol Foss. The class meets Oct. 30 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Visit historic inn

HCER will lead a trip to the 125-year-old Riverside Inn, situated on the banks of French Creek. The inn has been restored to its original beauty and offers a host of afternoon and dinner shows. Guests will see the Medieval Feast at the Castle Riverside. The trip is scheduled for Oct. 26, and departs by charter bus from Hudson High School at 11:30 a.m. and returns at 8 p.m. The registration deadline is Oct. 18.

Yoga classes offered

HCER offers adult yoga programs for beginners to the experienced. Instructor Paul Harms leads Hatha Yoga, which helps play sports, work or sit more comfortably six Tuesdays from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16 at the East Woods media center.

Yoga with Jenni Harris helps students relax through yoga postures and breathing. Classes meet six Monday evenings from Oct. 27 through Dec. 8 or six Thursday evenings from Oct. 30 to Dec. 18 at Barlow Community Center.

Beginning Yoga With Jenni Harris offers step-by-step instruction for those new to yoga. Classes meet for five Thursday evenings from Oct. 30 through Dec. 18 at the Barlow Community Center assembly room.

Yoga With Chairs is a therapeutic yoga class using the support of a chair, led by Harms. Classes meet for six Friday mornings from Oct. 31 through Dec. 12 at the Summa Wellness Institute.

Capture memories with writing workshop

The "Giving Your Word: Writing Your Family Stories" workshop from HCER teaches participants how to choose, access and organize material, give depth and color to words, and make memories and observations come alive. In-class writing exercises and handouts will be included. The instructor is Marsha McGregor, professional writer and a workshop instructor for the International Women's Writing Guild. Classes meet Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Children can play basketball after school

HCER's afterschool basketball program is now enrolling for session two. The goal of the afterschool basketball program is fun, and all participants play the entire time. Instruction will focus on good sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork, and rules. Johnny Rondo will lead the classes.

Programs are available for boys in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades and girls in the first, fourth and fifth grades for six weeks on various nights and times.

The program is full for girls in second and third grades.

A new advanced basketball program for boys and girls in grades two through five meets for six Tuesdays from Nov. 4 through Dec. 9.

Travel to China

HCER is hosting a 10-day summer trip to China, which departs June 15. "A Taste of China" participants will visit Beijing, Xi'an, Hangzhou and Shanghai. An extension of the trip is available to Yangtze River Cruise, Guilin, Hong Kong and Tibet. The deadline for a package price of $3,285 is Nov. 1.
