HCER is offering a "Reduce Stress, Learn Relaxation and Meditation" class for parents of special needs children and their children, ages 8 to adult. Licensed mental health therapist and parent of a special needs child Taff Price will teach the 1 1/2-hour session. The first hour will be a "parents only" relaxation skills session, with the child joining for the final 1/2 hour. Special needs children able to comprehend information and sit quietly for at least 20 minutes are eligible. Babysitting will be provided. The class will be Oct. 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Summa Wellness Institute, Conference Room 2. For additional eligibility information, call Price at 440-786-8141. Learn foil fencing Join HCER instructor Tom Nagy for an introduction to the fundamentals of modern foil fencing. This six-week class includes stretching, footwork, lunges, attack, parry-riposte, strategy, tactics, techniques and bouting. Fun and safety are emphasized. Equipment is provided. Classes designed for high school students and adults will meet for six Mondays, Oct. 20 to Nov. 24. Beginners will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and intermediate class will be from 8 to 9:30 p.m. at the Summa Wellness Institute Gym. Burn calories
For those looking to burn calories, HCER will offer a 60-minute circuit and strength training class to alternate between circuit training and a muscle-toning workout each week. The class will be instructed by Charlotte Murray, and will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10 to 5:10 p.m. Oct. 21 through Dec. 16 at Ellsworth Hill Gym. Prune away An HCER pruning class will feature classroom lecture and hands-on residential training by instructor Charlie Robinson, owner of Robinson Lawn and Garden Center. Class will meet Oct. 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Ellsworth Hill Elementary School's art room. Hand shears and pruners will be required. Obtain understanding
Those approaching age 65, or just going on Medicare for the first time, can gain a basic understanding of how Medicare works from instructor Laura Mutsko. The "Everything You Need to Know to Get Started with Medicare" class meets Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Summa Wellness Institute Conference Room, 5625 Hudson Drive. Comments
