The visiting Hudson field hockey team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Kent Roosevelt Sept. 9.

Kent took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Molly McGann found the net. But the Lady Explorers countered when Carly Mackessy scored three goals in the final 30 minutes.

Meaghan Thornlow also scored an added an assist for Hudson, which outshot Kent 11-9 and had a 14-7 edge on penalty corners.

Thornlow tied the game a minute into the second half and Mackessy gave the Lady Explorers the lead for good with a goal less than 15 minutes later.

Mackessy scored her second goal with six minutes left and added her final tally with less than a minute left.

Hudson goalkeeper Olivia Gallo made eight saves in the nets. Kent keeper Tara Thompson also had eight saves.

"Mallory Vehar controlled the right side of the field well," said Lady Explorers head coach K.C. Smith. "Nikki Wise led the defense as well. Meaghan Thornlow and Elizabeth Baglieri had great performances and Brigitta Haller did an excellent job in the midfield."

Hudson was scheduled to host Rocky River Magnificat Sept. 11 a Laflin Field. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Explorers are set to host Pepper Pike Orange Sept. 15 before heading to Medina Sept. 17. Both contests are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
