by Laura Freeman Reporter Hudson -- A 6-month-old Cuyahoga Falls boy died July 16 from injuries he suffered in a two-car traffic accident on Seasons Road along the Stow border. The Hudson Police Department is investigating the crash. City Communications Manager Jody Roberts said no one had been cited as of July 17, but she said one of the two vehicles traveled left of center on Seasons Road. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office July 17 reported that Jack Anthony Russ, born Jan. 12, 2008, the son of Maureen and Ronald Russ of Creek Side Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, was a restrained back seat passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident on Seasons Road near Sullivan Road July 15 at 6:24 p.m. He was transported to Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron where he died from his injuries July 16 at 5:13 p.m. Results from the autopsy and police investigation will not be available for several weeks, according to the medical examiner's office. Jack was a passenger in a van, along with his two sisters, that was being driven by Maureen. Hudson EMS Director Bruce Graham said Stow EMS, which arrived first at the scene, transported Jack to Children's Hospital and Maureen to Akron General Hospital. Cuyahoga Falls EMS transported one of Jack's sisters to Children's Hospital, and his other sister was transported by Hudson EMS. The driver of the other vehicle, a 53-year-old Stow man, was transported to Akron General Hospital by Hudson Emergency Medical Services. No information was available about his condition. John Carey, Jack's grandfather, was in a vehicle behind the Russ' van with his wife, Katherine, and Jack's 5-year-old brother, Bailey, who was unhurt. Carey said Maureen suffered a broken leg and other injuries, but was released from the hospital July 17. Carey said all passengers were restrained by seat belts or car seats, but Jack was ejected from the carrier car seat and suffered head injuries. Emma, 10, was released from the hospital July 16, and Casey, 8, was still hospitalized July 17 with possible back injuries, he said. "We want to thank everyone who helped during the ordeal," Carey said. "It was a horrible scene." Carey said the staff at both hospitals allowed Maureen to go to Children's Hospital, and the family spent time with Jack during his last moments. Ronald Russ is a doctor and head of residency at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. "It sounds horrible, but it was beautiful," Carey said. "The whole family was there and got to say good-bye." Carey said the family will remember how Jack smiled from ear to ear when someone looked at him. "He was bubbling with joy," Carey said. Carey, who owns Carey Funeral Home near Cleveland, said services would be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Cuyahoga Falls, but plans had not been finalized.
