Steam locomotive returns to Cuyahoga Valley railroad

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad announces the return of a historic steam locomotive to Cuyahoga Valley Sept. 24 through the 28th, with numerous events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

Sept. 24 and 25 will allow rail lovers to enjoy Steam Festival. Residents can spend an afternoon and evening on and around the Steam locomotive at Howe Meadow off of Riverview Road in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This event will be from 3 to 8 p.m. and visitors can enjoy a model railroad display, photos with the engineer, costumed characters, historic games, a gift shop, photo run bys and more. Parking and admission to the festival is $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 3 through 12. A ride aboard the train is an additional $15 for adults and $12 for children.

A steam locomotive excursion traveling through Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be offered on Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. and Sept.28th at 9:30 a.m. departing from the Rockside Station in Independence. Seating for the steam locomotive excursions will be available in Coach, Historic Coach, the Emerson Dome Car and in the St. Lucie -- CVSR's first-class luxury car. Pricing for these excursions vary.

CVSR is celebrating its 35th year of service in 2008. At the 2 p.m. excursion, a 35th Anniversary Run will be offered departing from the Rockside Station. A boxed lunch will be provided. Pricing varies and can be obtained by calling or visiting the CVSR Web site. Tickets for all of these excursions and events are now on sale.
