Fireworks light up sky July 5July 2, 2008
by Andree Niswander Reporter Hudson -- Fireworks will light up skies over the city once again, bringing boom and brilliance to the city's Fourth of July celebration. The 2008 Independence Day Fireworks Display will take place July 5, the second annual display produced by the Hudson Community Foundation. Hosted in cooperation with the city of Hudson and American Fireworks, the pyrotechnic show will take place at Barlow Farm Park located at 1965 Barlow Road. HCF became the display producers two years ago, after the fireworks were canceled due to lack of corporate funding, said Committee Chair Bill Sedlacek. A community highlight for more than 30 years, the fireworks display is an important part of Independence Day celebrations, said Sedlacek. "It's part of the tradition," he said. "It's an opportunity for family and friends to get together." In preparation for the show, this year's display will be high and impressive, according to American Fireworks representative Roberto Sorgi. Soaring 70 feet into the air for each inch of diameter, the 3- to 10-inch diameter shells will burst into myriad colors, shapes and sizes. "It's an all aerial show ... with a lot of pattern shells," said Sorgi. Slated to begin at dusk, or approximately 10 p.m., the more than 250 types of shells will illuminate the sky for approximately 25 minutes, he added. Comments
