Radcom Inc. of Hudson and Cinecraft Productions of Cleveland were gold winners for the 2008 Hermes Creative Awards. This is an international awards competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media. The winning project from Radcom and Cinecraft was for an online training program for Delta Faucet Co. There were more than 4,000 entries throughout the United States and several other countries in the Hermes Creative Awards 2008 competition. The Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce added 26 new members in recent months and doubled its number of major corporate sponsors. The Chamber's 26 new members come from six Northeast Ohio communities. Jo-Ann Stores Inc. and Windstream Communications have renewed their Executive Member status in the Chamber, and were joined by Allstate Insurance and Summa Wellness Institute. Gift cards available The Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce's citywide electronic gift card can now be purchased at two additional retail locations and online at the Chamber's Web site. The two new points of sale are Off MainStreet Salon, 7 Clinton St., and Summa Wellness Institute, 5625 Hudson Drive. The card also can be purchased at the Hudson Chamber Visitor Center, 245 N. Main St., and at www.explorehudson.com. The card was first introduced by the Chamber in 2002. Since its launch, consumers have bought thousands of cards, which have been used to make more than $275,000 in purchases in Hudson. Cards can be purchased in any amount of $10 or greater. Participating businesses pay a $25 annual fee to help the Chamber cover the cost of printing the cards. Dozens of businesses in Hudson accept the card. The Shoe Leather Express For a Cure team will have several fundraisers through June 21. The team is participating in the Breast Cancer 3-day, a three-day, 60-mile walk to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. Drug Mart, 5863 Darrow Road in Hudson, will host free car washes while accepting donations to the Shoe Leather Express team May 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Yours Truly Restaurant in Hudson will donate a portion of sales to the cause June 11 from 5 to 11 p.m. The restaurant also will host basket raffles. Coldwater Creek in Hudson recently raised $1,255 to benefit the Northeast Ohio affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The fundraiser took place April 20 as Coldwater Creek's "Try It On for the Cure." "We were so thrilled to be a part of this terrific fundraiser," said Patti Schaefer, store manager of the Coldwater Creek location in Hudson. "We want to thank the Hudson community for coming in and helping us support Susan G. Komen for the Cure." The store raised the funds by donating $1 to the organization for every shopper who tried on clothes April 20 and 10 percent of the day's sales. The company raised more than $100,000 for the organization and is planning a second fundraiser Sept. 21. Puppy whisperer author to visit Learned Owl The Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Main St., will welcome author Terence Cranendonk, who co-authored the "Puppy Whisperer: A Compassionate, Non Violent Guide To Early Training and Care" with dog whisperer Paul Owens. Local children's author to visit Learned Owl The Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Hudson Merchants will continue to work with Community First to "Take a Second and Make a Difference." Local merchants have developed the Hudson Passport for participants to count the number of steps between businesses. Participants can record the number of steps it takes to walk from store to store in the passport through May 31. Merchants will then stamp the passport and present a giveaway. Passports with at least 20 steps may be returned to InStyle Accessories to be entered to win one of two $25 Hudson Gift Cards. The Hudson Wine Festival will be July 19 from noon to 8 p.m. and July 20 from 1 to 6 p.m. along Village Way adjacent to Vue Restaurant and across from the Hudson library. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and include 10 tastings and a souvenir wine glass. Additional tastings are 10 for $5 at the event. Cruise-ins resume in Cuyahoga Falls Car cruise-ins have resumed Mondays from 5 p.m. until dusk at Falls River Square in Cuyahoga Falls. The event continues through Oct. 27. Organizers expect about 250 car owners will show off their classic vehicles at the events. A different model vehicle is featured each week. A disc jockey entertains the crowd, food vendors sell refreshments and a 50/50 drawing is conducted. Organizers say the Cuyahoga Falls cruise-in was rated the No. 1 cruise-in by Cruisin' Times Magazine, the largest cruiser publication in the Midwest. Don Sitts Auto Group sponsors the event.
