Gymnasts fare well

in Illinois

Level 8 gymnasts from Flytz USA in Cuyahoga Falls traveled to the Regional Gymnastics Championship May 2 in Peoria, Ill.

They competed against gymnasts from Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky and Indiana.

Girls who qualified to the meet were based on scores at their individual state gymnastics meets in April.

Bridget Madel, a seventh-grade student at Hudson Middle School, placed third on the floor exercise in age group from a field of more than 60 gymnasts. Madel scored a 9.475 and placed sixth on the bars with a 9.275 and sixth on beam with a 9.2.

Jaylen Lewis, a freshman at Hudson High School, landed her first double back tuck off the bars in competition to place seventh from a field of 62 gymnasts with a score of 9.225.

Corpora blasts

home run

The visiting Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy baseball team improved to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the Principals Athletic Conference with a 17-12 victory over Wooster Triway.

Hudson resident Matt Corpora hit his fourth home run of the season for CVCA. He also had a single and he scored three runs. He drove in two runs.

Duo helps CVCA

The host CVCA boys tennis team posted a convincing 4-1 victory over Richfield Revere May 7.

Hudson resident Chad Thompson scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles and Daniel Stoddard of Hudson and his partner posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at second doubles for CVCA (15-2).

Sullinger wins

The visiting CVCA boys track and field team earned a 64-64 tie against Principals Athletic Conference rival Massillon Tuslaw May 6.

Hudson resident Kyle Sullinger won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races with times of 4 minutes, 28.87 seconds and 9:49.34, respectively, for CVCA.
