Special to Record Publishing Co. Megan Thornlow (No. 15) and Maria Kreighbaum make their moves during a contest earlier in the season.

The visiting Hudson girls lacrosse team won its eighth consecutive match after posting a 12-10 victory over Shaker Heights May 7.

Elizabeth Baglieri led the Lady Explorers offense with five goals, including two 8-meter goals, two ground balls and one draw control. Mackenzie Parsons added three goals and scooped up one ground ball.

Cassie Hammer had a goal, an assist, an interception and three ground balls. Also contributing for Hudson (16-1) were Erika Fisher and Mackenzie Gordon, who each had one goal, one ground ball and one draw control. Kira Abakumov also found the net once.

Goalkeeper Jaqui Gemberling made 10 saves on 20 shots.

The host Lady Explorers also posted a 12-10 win over Rocky River Magnificat May 5.

Parsons had five goals, four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover and Kristen Kern had three goals one assist and one ground ball. Baglieri added two goals, two ground balls, one assist and one draw control.

Others who contributed for Hudson were Abakumov (one goal, four assists, two draw controls and one ground ball), Fisher (six ground balls and one caused turnover), Gordon (one assist), Hammer (one goal, two assists, three ground balls and one caused turnover), Abbey Mackessy (one assist and one draw control), Molly Schoonover (three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one interception) and Maria Kreighbaum and Courtney Werner, who each scooped up five ground balls for Hudson.

"Erika had a great game on the ground and Maria played well defensively," said Lady Explorers head coach Joya Mitchell. "We are really starting to focus and prepare for the postseason.

"We have a lot of little things to work on to perfect our game," she added. "We repeatedly tell this group of girls how special and talented they are. As long as they believe in themselves and each other, they will be playing deep in the postseason."

Hudson was scheduled to visit Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown May 9. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Explorers are set to host the Walsh Jesuit-Gates Mills Hawken winner in the opening round of the Division state playoffs May 16 at 6 p.m.

"My assistant coach Chris Apsega and I are just so proud of them and their play," Mitchell said. "They are doing a lot of great things on both offense and defense.

"The biggest thing for us right now is to play a full 50 minutes," she added. "We have started out slow the last couple of games and just need to make that adjustment to playing the entire game."
