The Hudson Garden Club spring plant exchange is scheduled for May 22 at the May Pavilion at Hudson Springs Park.

Check-in will begin at 6 p.m. while the exchange will start at 7 and end shortly after, so guests should not be late.

Each plant needs to be divided and labeled and brought to the exchange in a pot or see-through plastic bag.

Plants arrive in better condition if this is done a day or two ahead.

Make a point to have enough soil to cover the roots.

The label should identify the plant, providing its botanical or common name, color, height, bloom time and growing needs for sun, shade, etc.

The club welcomes as many plants as visitors would like to share, with the exception of those listed below or other invasive varieties.

The club no longer accept more than two plants of each of the following plants/groundcovers:

* All groundcovers, such as sweet woodruff, ajuga, lamium, pachysandra, vinca, myrtle, lily of the valley, lamb's ear and creeping jenny;

* Herbs: lemon balm, mints, valerian, tansy, oregano and monarda (bee balm); and

* Fast-spreading perennials: roadside daylilies, yarrow, gooseneck loosestrife, black-eyed susans, shasta daisies, coreopsis and violets.

Participants should bring their own plant flats or boxes to gather plants.

The exchange provides a list where people who have plants to share at home, or people who need plants, such as ground cover, can share their information and phone number.

One ticket will be issued for every standard size plant.

Participants may use the tickets to purchase plants from the exchange.

Leftover tickets can be used in a fall plant exchange.

Those without plants to share may purchase tickets for $1 each.

All plants, excluding the unusual or specialty plants, which are labeled as such, are available for one ticket or $1.
