The visiting Western Reserve Academy softball team earned a lopsided 23-3 win over Hathaway Brown May 1 in Shaker Heights. The Lady Pioneers (6-2) scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Elena Fox allowed no earned runs on four hits and one walk. Tucker Murray was battling the flu, so Sarah Wise stepped in behind the plate. Reserve had 22 hits and three errors, while Hathaway Brown had four hits and four errors. Several Lady Pioneers had big days at the plate. Kelly Muffley led the way with four hits, including a double, three runs batted in and three runs scored. Rachel Blanda had three hits, including a double, five RBIs and four runs scored. Jenny Blanda had three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. Also smacking three hits for Reserve was Elizabeth Sankey, who drove in two runs and scored two runs. Recording two hits for WRA were Allie Wirtz, with one of her hits being a double (five runs and three RBIs), Caylie Scherba (three runs and an RBI), Stephanie Treubig (three runs and an RBI) and Sarah Wise (three RBIs). Katie Durr added a single, an RBI and a run scored. The Lady Pioneers were scheduled to host Gates Mills Gilmour Academy May 6. Results were not available at press time. They are set to visit Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy May 8 at 4:30 p.m. and Andrews Osborne (Willoughby) May 9 at 5:30 p.m. Baseball team falls The host WRA baseball lost to a 12-0 decision to Gates Mills Gilmour Academy May 1 at home. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Gilmour had 12 hits and no errors and the Pioneers had one hit and seven errors. Gilmour scored three runs in the first and fifth innings and two apiece in the second, third and fourth innings. Gilmour improved to 15-3, while Reserve dropped to 3-10. WRA was set to visit University May 6 in Hunting Valley. Results were not available at press time. The Pioneers are scheduled to host Canton Central Catholic May 8 at 4:45 p.m. and Kiski (Pa.) in a doubleheader May 10.
