The nine-match winning streak is over.

The visiting Hudson boys lacrosse team dropped to 9-2 on the season after losing a convincing 18-7 decision to Worthington Kilbourne May 2.

The last time these two teams met was in a Division I state semifinal contest last year. The Explorers earned an 8-4 win in that contest. Both teams were 9-2 as of press time.

Hudson never really got things going offensively or defensively as Kilbourne took advantage of mistakes, turnovers and missed assignments.

The Explorers defense gave up 45 shots, while the offense struggled early with just eight first-half attempts at the cage.

Ryan Althausen won 19 of 25 draws and scooped up six ground balls. Bobby Tyler had two goals and one assist and scooped up seven ground balls.

"Depressing as the overall game was, there were some bright spots," said Hudson head coach David Blue. "Sophomore face-off specialist, Ryan Althausen, was dominating on the draw all night. Bobby Tyler had a good showing as well."

Connor McMahon added two goals and Chris Moore, Jake McHenry and Billy Paster each had one goal.

Scott Krusinski, McHenry and Jordan Wood each had an assist.

Explorers goalkeeper Jonathan Hoelzel made six saves and Darren Ashton had one.

The junior varsity team dropped its second consecutive game when it lost a 9-8 decision.

Kilbourne scored what turned out the be the game-winning goal with less than a minute to play.

The Explorers were scheduled to host Medina May 6. Results were not available at press time.

They are set to host Kent Roosevelt May 9 at 7:30 p.m.
