Brian David Giltinan, 39, of Hudson and formerly of Edinboro, Pa., died April 30, 2008, at his home after a 4 1/2-year battle with sarcoma. Born May 6, 1968, in Cleveland, Mr. Giltinan was a son of David and Janice Peterson Giltinan. He grew up in Edinboro and graduated from General McLane High School and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Penn State University. He was in the Penn State NROTC program and was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in December 1990. He graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power School in 1992 and served eight years as an officer in the Navy. He served as a nuclear mechanical officer on the USS Virginia, taught at the Naval Preparatory School, and was the Officer in Charge on the USNS Kanawa. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. He earned a master's degree in civil engineering from Cleveland State University in 2001. Mr. Giltinan was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association and the Chi Epsilon National Civil Engineering Honor Society. He was a licensed professional engineer in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He had many varied interests including skiing, fishing, bicycling, and many other sports, and he was an avid reader. He was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Giltinan is survived by his wife, Jennifer M. Kissel Giltinan, whom he married July 11, 1992; son, Liam; brother, Kevin (Alicia) Giltinan; and nephews. Kagan and Declan of Littleton, Colo. Services have taken place.
