Baseball drive scores $5,000 in equipment

Yours Truly Restaurants' recent collection drive for new and gently used baseball gloves and other baseball equipment brought in more than $5,000 worth of equipment and donations for the Cleveland Baseball Federation.

"This was our first year asking for a specific piece of equipment -- gloves, one of our greatest needs," said CBF Executive Director John Carter. "Yours Truly guests and employees were very generous with their support."

According to Carter, a number of other organizations also initiated collections after hearing about the effort at Yours Truly.

CBF is a 98-year-old non-profit organization that runs all the baseball and softball programs for the city of Cleveland. CBF provides full funding to more than 7,000 youth participants, as well as the necessary leadership to ensure the baseball programs contain components that promote social and educational values to help youth become productive adult citizens.

"We're pleased that many children will benefit from the gloves and donations collected at each of our eight stores. It's a pleasure to partner with such a positive, well-run organization as CBF," said Yours Truly Partner Jeffrey Shibley.

Passports may be found at Hershey's, Hudson's Restaurant, InStyle Accessories, pizzaBogo and The Learned Owl Book Shop.

LifeCenter participates in nationwide program

LifeCenter Plus, 5133 Darrow Road in Hudson, is taking part in "Get Active America!" along with hundreds of other members of the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association.

LifeCenter Plus will open its doors free to the public May 16, 17 and 18 as part of this nationwide program to encourage Americans to begin life-saving exercise. This weekend open house will allow Hudson and Stow area residents to take exercise classes and use the LifeCenter Plus facilities free of charge. LifeCenter Plus members are invited to bring a friend or family member in for free May 12 through 15.

This year marks the fifth year of the campaign, which offers Americans of all ages a "first step" opportunity to begin an exercise program in a safe, supportive environment. The campaign has three main concerns: "Gateway to Healthy Living" emphasizes ways to start being active for those who have not previously exercised regularly; "Disease Prevention" stresses the importance of exercise in preventing or controlling chronic illness; and "Healthy Aging" speaks to the large population of Boomers who may not have previously engaged in regular exercise.

"We are proud to participate in such an encouraging program and offer free workouts to those interested in beginning and maintaining a healthy lifestyle," said Jan Rubins, general manager of LifeCenter Plus. "Our guests will be able to experience the club's facilities, including pools, state-of-the-art exercise equipment and an array of exercise classes."
