Future census
Susan Hack, a 24-year employee of the Federal Census Bureau, will speak to the Hudson Genealogy Study Group at 9:30 a.m. May 10 in the Flood Family Meeting Room of the Hudson Library and Historical Society. Hack will address the 2010 census and the historic federal census that all U.S. residents must fill out every 10 years. She is assigned to the Detroit Regional Census Center and responsible for staffing census offices in Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia for the 2010 census. The Hudson Library and Historical Society offers online access to the complete U.S. census both through Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest databases. For more information, call Hudson Library Archivist and Genealogy Group President Gwen Mayer at 330-653-6658 ext. 1017. Craft cards at library Jane Nied will teach participants techniques of card-making May 19 at 7 p.m. Sample cards are on display in the library's main lobby. A nominal donation will be accepted the night of the class to cover the cost of the materials provided. Registration is required. To register, call 330-653-6658 ext. 1010 or stop by the reference desk at the library. For more information, visit the library's Web site at www.hudsonlibrary.org. Shipwrecks discussed Authors Georgann and Mike Wachter will describe their adventures diving and investigating the "Shipwrecks of Lake Erie" May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Library and Historical Society. What started as a hobby for this husband and wife diving team has evolved into a full-time job investigating the myths and realities behind the thousands of shipwrecks scattered all over the Great Lakes. The Wachters, who have been diving all over the world, say the best preserved shipwrecks can be found in the fresh waters of the Great Lakes. They have written five books on the subject and numerous magazine articles. This program is free and no registration is required. For more information call the reference department at 330-653-6658, ext. 1010 or visit www.hudsonlibrary.org. Library services
The Hudson Library and Historical Society's homebound service delivers library materials to Hudson residents who are physically unable to visit the library, including the elderly and the physically disabled. The librarians will choose books and items based on the participants' interests and deliver the items once a month to a homebound resident, whether that person is living at home or in a retirement community. Homebound residents may receive the full range of materials that are available in the library such as books-on-tape, CDs, videos, magazines and books. For more information or to request homebound service, call the library at 330-653-6658 and ask for the reference desk. Comments
