Mom and daughter breakfast May 10

Nicky Nicole will host a mothers and daughters breakfast May 10 at 9:30 a.m. at The Vue in First & Main.

The event includes a meal, table favors, activities, crafts, games, a parade of fashions and a fashion preview.

Mother's Day buffet served at the Vue

The Vue Restaurant and Lounge will be open Mother's Day May 11 for a buffet from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cellist Benjamin Francisco will provide music.

The cost is $29.95 for adults, $16.95 for children ages 4 to 12 and children under 4 years old are free. Reservations are required. Call 330-650-1883 for more information.

Development to be discussed

"How Can Hudson Compete?" will be the topic presented by Tom Waltermire, president and CEO of Team Northeast Ohio, at the 2008 annual meeting of the Hudson Economic Development Corp. May 15.

The event, at The Country Club of Hudson, will begin with a cocktail and networking reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the program.

Waltermire joined Team NEO, the 16-county region's marketing and business attraction organization, in 2006. He serves on Ohio's Third Frontier advisory board.

HEDC will present the first-ever Hudson Economic Development Advocate of the Year Award to an individual, group or organization that has made an impact on economic development in Hudson in 2007.

Nominations are being accepted. Nominations of no more than 75 words should be submitted to Bill Wooldredge (wdwooldred@roadrunner.com or 100 College St.) no later than May 5.

The meeting is open to the public. Reservations by May 10 are required and can be made by calling Mike Dostal at 330-463-0216.

Salsa tasting on May 10

Heather's Heat & Flavor, 94 First St., will host a tasting May 10 from noon to 3 p.m. of Charlie Halverstadt's new salsa, CharlieHorse Salsa. For more information, call 330-653-5131.

Youth fitness
club offered

The Future Fitness Club is now offered at LifeCenter Plus, 5133 Darrow Road in Hudson.

This group weight management program is for children 8 to 13 years old.

The club meets Mondays and Wednesdays for eight weeks beginning May 5 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Book shop
welcomes author

The Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Main St., will welcome local author and University of Akron professor Paul Stroble to discuss and autograph his newest book, "You Gave Me a Wide Place," May 9 from 7 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Stroble teaches at University of Akron, where he earned an Excellence in Teaching Award. He studied at Greenville College, Yale Divinity School, and the University of Virginia. He has served as a parish pastor and volunteer leader at several churches and as a college teacher and seminary instructor. Stroble is a writer-researcher for the United Methodist curriculum FaithLink and has written numerous articles, essays, poems and curricular materials.
