Hudson Masonic Lodge No. 510 on April 26 honored Robert Swedenborg for his community service and his efforts as president of the Hudson library board. "Hudson Lodge No. 510 is proud to award to Robert Swedenborg the Masonic Community Service Award," said William DeBlaey, master of Hudson Lodge. "He has shown outstanding leadership and devotion to community service as president of the Hudson Library and Historical Society." As a longtime resident of Summit County and Hudson, he worked for 36 years as a math teacher for the Hudson schools, his last six as chairman of the math department. Upon retirement, he became involved with the Hudson library board and was elected president. He provided leadership and saw the completion of the new library. In addition, those in attendance heard a presentation by Gwen Mayer, Hudson library archivist. She shared highlights of Hudson Freemasonry from the 1800s to the present. "Freemasons have been a major influence in the Hudson community," Mayer said. "The principles of Freemasonry -- community involvement, hard work and service to others -- have guided them from the founding of Hudson and throughout our town's history." This event highlighted the 200th anniversary of Freemasonry in Ohio when six Lodges met in Chillicothe in 1808 to form the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Hudson Lodge, chartered in 1876, joined with the grand master and all Ohio Freemasons in this year-long celebration. For more information, call James Amlung, lodge secretary, at 330-688-7061.
