Two Century Cycles employees, including one from Peninsula, plan to bike from Ohio to South America to support melanoma research and awareness.

Kevin Madzia of Peninsula and Ray Query of Lakewood hope to raise $20,000 for The Melanoma Research Foundation while traveling more than 15,000 miles during an eight-month period.

They depart Aug. 24 from Cleveland and plan to travel until they reach the southern tip of South America.

Along the way, they will sleep in campgrounds and hostels, and prepare their own meals. Their progress will be charted at
www.miles4melanoma.com.

Those wishing to donate can visit the Web site to find more information.

Madzia, whose father died of melanoma, is a member of the National Mountain Bike Patrol and is the information technology coordinator for Century Cycles in Peninsula.
