Church Women United celebrate friendship

May Friendship Day, sponsored by Church Women United of North Summit County, will be at the First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St., May 2. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the annual salad luncheon at 11:30 a.m.

Mary Ann Smith and the Congregational women will be hostesses for the lunch. Each person attending is requested to bring a salad to share. May Friendship Day is open to all.

The theme for the day is "God's Wisdom Inspires Hospitality." Phyllis Witt of First Congregational Church will share "Plant a seed of hospitality -- reap a bouquet of friendship."

The group also will explore hospitality in the home and community and hospitality by sharing skills, knowledge and talents.

Church Women United also will recognize the Least Coin program, a global movement of prayer, justice and reconciliation.

Churches gather for World Day of Prayer

In recognition of the National Day of Prayer, Hudson's churches, through the ministerial association, are sponsoring a prayer breakfast May 1 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Hudson Community Chapel, at the intersection of Terex Road and Route 303.

Local church members and Hudson residents are encouraged to come together at this event to pray.

A breakfast buffet will be served, followed by a program of music, guest speakers from the community and prayer led by pastors from Hudson churches.

The cost is $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Hudson Community Chapel church office or on its Web site,
www.hudsonchapel.org.

Kids to give concert

The kids' choir at Hudson Community Chapel presents a mini concert and musical titled "Miracle on Main Street" April 27 at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary.

A reception will follow immediately with a free photo booth.

Celeste Clydesdale and David T. Clydesdale wrote the children's Christmas musical, "Miracle on Main Street, The Little Pageant That Wouldn't Give Up."

The script contains a blend of new songs with traditional carols chronicling the dilemma of a group of children who want to celebrate Christmas in public, but face opposition from the politically correct local townsfolk.

Dwelling Place
to discuss prayer

The Rev. Steve Hutchinson, pastor of Dwelling Place Family Church, will begin a new sermon series about prayer in May, beginning May 1 -- National Day of Prayer. The community is invited to meet at the Gazebo on the Green in downtown Hudson that day at noon where they will pray for the city, its leaders, the schools and the country, as well as for individual concerns.

Dwelling Place Family Church meets at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St., Sundays at 10 a.m. Free child care is available. For more information call 330-650-9808.

Places of worship observe Yom HaShoah

Yom HaShoah will be observed May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St. in Hudson.

Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) is increasingly observed throughout religious institutions in the United States and Canada.

Temple Beth Shalom, The First Congregational Church of Hudson, Hudson United Methodist Church, the Laurel Lake Community, Christ Episcopal Church and St. Mary Church will participate in a community-wide service of remembrance. Professor Yoram Eckstein, a survivor of the Holocaust, will be the speaker.

In addition to teaching geology at Kent State University, Eckstein is a poet whose latest book is titled "Shards of [personal] history and other poems."

Yellow candles, available at the temple, can be purchased for a suggested $5 donation to aid in home observance.

The candles will also be available at the service May 6 as well.

Call the temple office at 330-656-1800 for more information or to purchase candles. A collection will be taken for donation to the Fund for the Righteous.

Films shown
at student ministries

Hope Student Ministries is hosting a film festival at their Hope Café on May 2 from 8 to 11 p.m.

There will be homemade movies shown and snacks and refreshments served. This event is open to both middle and high school students.

Hope Café is in Hope Community Church, 3033 Middleton Road in Hudson.

United Methodist
hosts annual sale

Hudson United Methodist Church, 2600 Hudson-Aurora Road, will host its 20th annual attic sale May 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a half price and bag sale after 1.

Items can be donated to the church from April 28 through May 1.
