Dorothea W. Sutton, 92, died April 19, 2008, at her residence at Laurel Lake in Hudson. She was born in Cleveland Feb. 9, 1916, to Frank and Minnie Schwabe. She and her family moved to Hudson in 1953, and she was one of the earliest residents of Laurel Lake in 1989. Mrs. Sutton was a successful amateur athlete in tennis and golf. Her love for sports carried throughout her adult years as she followed all levels of competition. She was a respected educator with an undergraduate degree from Western Reserve University and a master's degree from Kent State University. She taught elementary children in the Cleveland school system; developed curricula for other teachers; rose through several administrative responsibilities and culminated her career as a elementary principal for several years prior to her retirement in 1977. She continued to tutor children with learning challenges after her formal career. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Daniel, in 1977. She is survived by her brother, Richard (Jean) Schwabe; son, Jeff (Susan Pucci) Sutton; grandsons, Scott Sutton, Chris (Susie) Sutton and Dylan Sutton; and several nieces and nephews. There was a memorial service in the Serenity Chapel at Laurel Lake Retirement Center April 26. Comments
