William Sample Barrack Jr., 80, of New Canaan, Conn., died April 17, 2008. He was born July 26, 1929, in Pittsburgh, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from active reserve in 1989 with the rank of commander. He worked for Texaco's U.S. Marketing organization for 40 years, serving as chairman and chief executive officer of Texaco Ltd. in London, and in various capacities stateside until he retired in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Irene Ball of Newport, R.I.; son, William Peter Barrack (Katherine Winn) of Wellesley, Mass., daughter, Elizabeth Barrack Howells (Henry Coggeshall Howells IV) of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; sister, Ruth Barrack Kelly of Hudson; and brother, R.
