RAYMOND F. CROSSEN / Business owner and trainer of thoroughbred horses

Raymond Frances Crossen, 89, died Feb. 4, 2008, surrounded by his family at his daughter's home in Hudson.

He was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Bloomfield, Conn., to the late Raymond and Francis Crossen.

He was married for 64 years to Barbara (Meyers) Crossen, who died Dec. 31, 2007.

They moved to Ohio in 1951 and settled in Hudson in 1956 where they raised their four children. He and his wife started Ray Crossen Horse Vans Inc., a trucking company that transported horses throughout the United States, in 1965.

He was an owner and trainer of thoroughbred racehorses that raced at various tracks in Ohio. His stable was based at Thistledown Race Track in North Randall. He also was an avid horseback rider and was still riding in his late 70s as well as training racehorses.

He enjoyed riding horses and working around his farm, going to see his horses race and attending his grandchildren's various activities.

Mr. Crossen was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; son, Raymond Crossen Jr.; brothers, William (Joan) Crossen and Tommy Crossen; sisters, Helen Crossen and Francis Adams; and brothers-in-laws, Ray Ward and Douglas Dahm.

He is survived by daughters, Barbara (Terry) McMullen of Jacksonville, Fla., Jean (Bob) Smith of Cuyahoga Falls and Mary Jo (Jamie) Musarro of Hudson; grandchildren, Chris (Elizabeth) McMullen, and Katie, Michael, Adam and Joseph Musarro; great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Caroline McMullen; sisters, Mary Ward, Katherine Dahm, Loretta (Warren) Flees and Gail Emery; sister-in-law, Ellen Crossen; and brother-in-law, Paul Adams.

A funeral service was Feb. 8 at Mother of Sorrows. Burial was at Northlawn Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home.
