by Rachael Whitcomb Associate Editor Hudson -- Despite reports from the Ohio Department of Transportation that it was purchasing and would close the BP on Boston Mills Road June 4, the gas station remains open. According to a worker at the station, the bustling stop at the base of the Ohio Turnpike ramp at Route 8 and Boston Mills Road will remain open until the end of the year. A sign on the door of the gas station also states it will remain open. Phone calls to BP's corporate offices for an official statement were not returned by press time. ODOT spokesperson Paula Putnam said in May that the state agency was making plans to complete its purchase of the station June 14, though a sale price still was being negotiated. At the time, she said the station would close June 4, adding ODOT needed the land there for improvements it is planning on the Ohio Turnpike toll plaza and ramps as part of the Route 8 construction project, scheduled for completion in 2009. Putnam said June 1 that BP representatives requested a meeting, scheduled for June 4, to discuss the closing date for the station. That meeting was postponed, she reported, and a new date for the meeting had not been rescheduled by press time. E-mail: rwhitcomb@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3146 Comments
