Hudson -- Mayor David Basil April 18 recognized April as Autism Awareness Month with a proclamation and encouraged citizens to make Hudson an autism-friendly community.
More than 3.5 million people live with autism, a life-long disorder, and the "Autism Society of Greater Akron encourages governmental agencies at all levels, as well as businesses, private organizations, schools and others to join in being trained to learn about the characteristics of autism and how best to support and interact with someone with an autism spectrum disorder," according to the proclamation.
Janet Rodgers accepted the proclamation. She is a Hudson resident and board member of Autism Society of Greater Akron & director of critical care, emergency trauma for Akron Children's Hospital.
