Hudson -- When Jason Cerutti was 14, he injured his neck playing high school football when he was knocked unconscious on the field.
"I had severe neck pain and pain shooting down my arms. My hands were numb and tingly. I was pretty frightened, to say the least," he said. "The doctors said I would eventually need surgery. But my parents took me to see a chiropractor, and I was back on the football field in a couple of weeks. I never had surgery."
Cerutti, who played fullback and nose guard, was 5-foot-4 at the time and wound up being 5-foot-5.
"I told my father (Arthur) that if I didn't make it as an NFL player, I wanted to be a chiropractor," Cerutti said. "But I knew the National Football League wasn't looking for a 5-foot-4 player."
So Cerutti went with plan B, having just opened The Chiropractic Place in Hudson.
"My mom (Joy) just shook her head about me being an NFL player," he added. "I think she's much happier that I'm in a chiropractor's office instead."
Cerutti, who owned his own chiropractor's practice for 17 years in Sicklerville, N.J., about 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia, moved into his new office in Hudson, which opened Sept. 26. He was eager to return to northeast Ohio because his wife, the former Andrea Ross, grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School. Her parents, Norm and Toni Ross, still live in Cuyahoga Falls.
"Andrea wanted to get back to Ohio for a lot of years," he said. "Eventually, we did it."
He and his wife have four children -- Francesca, 14, Grace, 12, and twins Jake and Abby, 10.
Cerutti is planning a grand opening/ribbon cutting event in mid- to late-October at The Chiropractic Place, 10000 Hudson Aurora Road, Suite B, Hudson.
"What I do is not just get people out of pain," he said. "It is correcting the problem -- trying to keep the problem from coming back over and over.
"I am very happy with the opportunity to move to such a great town and open a new chiropractic office," he said. "I realized that no matter where you go or where you live, there are people that are suffering needlessly from spinal issues and health problems that I can help with."
Cerutti said his office will be "warm and friendly."
"Our goal is to be very different from the everyday doctor's offices that people visit," he said. "We know our patients' time is valuable so we do not make them wait. Our goal is to provide a safe, effective, gentle service at a fair price without a long wait.
"I also believe in giving back to the community," he said. "We work with many local businesses and provide free lunch and learn workshops, stress break massages and free kinesiotaping at 5Ks or sporting events. If you are looking for something like that at your office or event, keep us in mind."
