Hudson's Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has an extensive history of helping those in our community who are in critical need.°Because of their deep commitment to the citizens of Hudson, EMS Outreach of Hudson was founded in 2010 to provide additional support to expand Hudson EMS within the community through advocacy, coordination of auxiliary activities, public awareness, technical assistance, funding, and training.
Recently, EMS Outreach of Hudson, along with Hudson Rotary, helped the city of Hudson to reach its goal to raise the $16,000 needed to purchase a Lucas device for a second Hudson ambulance. The Lucas device is a chest compression system that provides consistent external heart compressions to help improve outcomes of sudden cardiac arrest victims. It is portable and lightweight, easily fitting into one of Hudson's ambulances. It can be applied to the patient with interruptions of manual compressions in less than 20 seconds. The Lucas device can help to sustain vital blood circulation in cardiac arrest patients. Although Hudson EMS has successfully performed high quality manual chest compressions to many Hudson residents, it is both difficult and tiring. The purchase of a second Lucas device can provide prolonged compressions with the same quality for all patients and over time, independent of transport conditions or rescuer fatigue. The use of a Lucas Device can also allow the Hudson EMS responders to attend to other life-saving activities.
The Emergency Medical Services Outreach of Hudson, a 501 (c)(3) organization, promotes the efforts of the EMS within Hudson. EMS Outreach has been involved in several community projects this year, including the mailbox number program for seniors. In a situation where emergency services are required, any delay has the potential to impact the outcome of that situation. The mailbox number program, which was graciously supported through the help of Hudson Ace Hardware, has been providing free reflective mailbox numbers to help city services quickly locate any citizens in need during an emergency. Mailbox numbers are still available at the Hudson Fire Station.
