Hudson -- It will not be hills, but Hudson Memorial Stadium will come alive with the sound of music Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. when the 56th Annual Hudson Parade of Bands Show kicks off.

The show will highlight the Hudson Swing Marching Band as well as nine visiting bands from a variety of high schools including Berkshire, Brush, Eastlake North, James A. Garfield, Maple Heights, Olmsted Falls, Solon, Southeast and Stow.

"This event solely benefits the marching band program," according to Brenda Lyon, who is Hudson Parade of Band co-chair, along with her husband, Guy. "Need to mention that the Hudson Parade of Bands is the largest fundraiser of the year for the High School Band and all proceeds solely benefit the marching band program to help pay for uniforms, new instruments, equipment replacement and other pertinent band needs throughout the year."

Last year's show was cancelled due to the weather.

"Since the show was cancelled in 2015, we are in need of a large successful show this year with a great audience turn out," Guy added.

The cancellation was only the second in 56 years.

"After a year hiatus, we and our POB steering team are very excited and very much looking forward to presenting a fabulous show for our community and audience in 2016," Guy said. "We have over 1,500 talented band students performing and this will be our largest band show ever based upon the sheer band student numbers."

Beverly O'Connor, band teacher for both Hudson middle and high school will be this year's director.

"We are so lucky in Northeastern Ohio to have such a rich marching band tradition and to have so many different bands of various sizes and styles," O'Connor said. "Our event gives some non-competitive bands a chance to perform for each other outside of a game night experience."

O'Connor also said the event is the biggest fundraiser we have for the band segment of the Hudson Music Association.

"Luckily our outstanding stadium has a turf field, so rain before the event will not affect our marching surface," according to O'Connor. "In the case of light rain our performance will go on --band kids are very tough, and they don't let a little drizzle bother them."

In case of severe weather such as lightning, storms or heavy snow, the decision to cancel the show will be made the afternoon of the show.

"This year's event promises to be one of the best Parade of Bands yet," O'Connor said. "The event is a result of hours and hours of work by our dedicated Hudson Music Association parent volunteers."

O'Connor credited Brenda and Guy Lyon as well as co-chairs Lisa and Mike Ramsay and John and Becky Gomersal for the concert.

"We have also had hours of work from our Band VPs, Shari Barton and Traci Miller," O'Connor said. "Our band could not do what they do without the help of the people in this amazing organization."
