Hudson -- A national organization dedicated to raising money and awareness to research and fight cancer is looking for volunteers.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is looking for local members to serve on the volunteer Hudson team for next year's event.

"There are many different roles and opportunities to volunteer," said Liz Roche, specialist for the Relay For Life. "We are currently looking for volunteers to join our event leadership team to assist with the planning of our Relay For Life event."

Eight volunteers were on the leadership team this year, according to Roche. About 159 participants took part in a variety of events during a 24-hour period, beginning June 21, to raise funds to fight cancer. The date for next year's relay has not yet been announced, according to Roche.

Volunteers will help with planning the Hudson Relay For Life event and would be placed in a job in which they would feel comfortable and would fit with their schedule, Roche said.

"In order for our event to be a success we need volunteers from the Hudson community to help with the planning and spreading the mission of the American Cancer Society throughout the community," Roche said. "We are hosting an event leadership open house on Sept. 4 at Panera in Hudson beginning at 7 p.m.. please feel free to drop by for more information."
