Trails of Hudson decides to keep 55 and older restriction for tenants

Hudson -- The builders of Trails of Hudson, 5251 Hudson Drive, withdrew their request for a zoning amendment to remove the age restriction of 55 and older on its development.

Council made a motion to withdraw the ordinance at its April 2 meeting, and it was unanimously approved.

Owned and managed by Redwood Management Co., Trails of Hudson is located on 33 acres with entrances on Hudson Drive and Norton Road.

Phase 1 of Trails of Hudson consisted of 82 dwelling units, which are completed. Phase 2 was to have 90 units for a total of 172 units in 43 buildings.

Phone calls and emails for a comment from Redwood Management Co. were not returned.

In the original request to rezone, David Conwill, president of Redwood Communities Group, stated the leases for the phase 1 dwellings had not met expectations.

Trails of Hudson is being built in the District 8 Hike Bike Senior Housing Overlay, which restricts residents to those 55 and older.

Phase 2 includes the construction of Lawnmark Drive, a road connection to adjacent commercial properties, that could help relieve traffic on Darrow Road.

Also, phase 2 includes a trailhead for the hike and bike trail on land previously donated to the MetroParks Serving Summit County, which will be open to all park users.
