UPDATE: Marcelita's owner says voluntary recall concerns only jarred salsa and queso retail products

Owner says food served at restaurant unaffected by alert

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) issued a public health alert for an undetermined amount of canned salsa and con queso product produced by Marcelita's Authentic Mexican Food restaurant, located at 7774 Darrow Road in Hudson.

All Marcelita's Salsa and Marcelita's Con Queso retail products should be discarded, as the product was produced in an environment where it may have become adulterated. Products subject to this alert were sold at the Darrow Road restaurant and Heinen's grocery stores.

Kevin Killeen, owner of Marcelita's, stressed Wednesday that the recall involves only the jarred salsa and queso retail products.

"It has nothing to do with the salsa, queso and food served at the restaurant and in our carryout business," he said.

Killeen also said the recall was voluntary and due to "licensing issues."

There have been no reports of illness involving products addressed in this alert. Individuals exhibiting signs or symptoms of foodborne illness are encouraged to contact a physician immediately.

Consumers with questions about food safety can contact the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Division of Food Safety at 614-728-6250.
