Painesville - U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) announced that he's nominated 29 local students in the 14th Congressional District to the United States service academies. There are five service academies: The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), The United States Naval Academy (USNA), The United States Military Academy (USMA), The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), and The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA).

Congressional nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where appointments are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition. There is typically at least one vacancy annually at each of the service academies and the Congressman can select up to 10 candidates to fill the vacancy. This year, however, the 14th Congressional District had two vacancies at the Naval Academy and Congressman Joyce opted to use them to nominate 20 students to the Naval Academy. Joyce stated:

"These young men and women are among the best and brightest in the nation. I'm humbled to have gotten to know many of them, and am proud to nominate all of them to our U.S. service academies."

U.S. Naval Academy nominees from Hudson include: Michael Innamorato, Michael Rossi and Jordan Wagner West Point Nominees: Michael Coleman and Michael Rossi. Merchant Marine Academy Nominee: Lucas Wilch.
