Hudson -- The district is on schedule to meet its fall completion deadline for the $2 million Malson Athletic Center at Hudson Memorial Stadium.
"We are right on track, we have completed the schematic design, the design development and we are completing the construction documents," Business Manager Derek Cluse said Feb. 10 during a Board of Education presentation.
The district is working on obtaining permits and will meet with the city planning committee and architectural review board in March, Cluse said.
"We are working right now to develop the guaranteed maximum price for the project," Cluse said. "We know our budget is $2 million and we feel we are on tack to accomplish that goal."
So far the project is within 10 percent of the goal, Cluse added. However, once the project is near an end, there will be discounts and change orders which will drop the price, he said.
Bidding will begin later this month or early next month.
According to Cluse, Richard and Barbara Malson donated $500,000 towards this project and issued a challenge in the form of a dollar-for-dollar matching gift. The Hudson Board of Education has allocated $385,000 in construction funding left over from a previous construction project. An additional $500,000 is available from a community reinvestment/tax abatement plan with Boston Heights, via an agreement with Arhaus Furniture.
A variety of local residents and merchants have donated or pledged $2.6 million for the project, with about $585,000 of that already being paid. Additional rooms and components can be added if money permits, Cluse said.
Cluse said 99 percent of the funds will be collected by the summer.
"It's going to move fairly quickly over the next 30 days and then by spring break I plan on us breaking ground and working feverishly over the summer to get this ready by early September," he said.
The two-story, 9,400 square foot building will house locker rooms, a hall of fame, training rooms, coaching offices and storage on the first floor and a community room on the second floor, overlooking the stadium.
"I'm very excited that we've gotten to this point," Board member Gary Mushock said. "There is a lot of exciting things going on with the facilities."
The "Continue the Legacy" fundraising program will continue.
The district is providing a number of opportunities available to purchase naming rights for the community room, hall of fame, male varsity locker room, female locker room and the athletic training room.
In addition, there are many other donor levels to meet the needs of the community. Of particular interest to former Hudson Athletes may be the opportunity to sponsor a locker.
