Ten file for Summit County Council at-large seat on May 6 primary ballot

Akron -- Ten hopefuls, including three incumbents, have filed petitions for the position of at-large representative to Summit County Council.

The Feb. 5 filings were for the May 6 primary election, where voters will pick three candidates from each party to be on the November ballot for three seats on Summit County Council.

The Summit County Board of Elections is expected to certify the petitions at its Feb. 18 meeting.

In the Democratic primary, three challengers, Daniel A. Congrove and John A. Donofrio of Akron and Michael Wheeler of Richfield, will face incumbents Ilene Shapiro and Sandra Kurt, of Akron.

In the Republican primary, incumbent Bill Roemer of Richfield faces Carl Richard Crew I, Gary William Hagen, Debbie Walsh, all of Akron, and Jay F. Iula, of Cuyahoga Falls.

No one filed for the Constitution, Green, Libertarian or Socialist parties, according to a synopsis of the filings by the Summit County Board of Elections.
