2013 - A Look Back: Gables of Hudson opens in 2013

Hudson -- The Gables of Hudson, built on the former Waters Restaurant site on state Route 91, opened in September of 2013.

It is one of three new developments targeting seniors in Hudson. Heritage of Hudson is an 80-bed assisted living facility on West Barlow Road, and Trails of Hudson has 172-units on 34 acres for seniors 55 and older at Hudson and Norton roads.

The Gables of Hudson, 5400 Darrow Road, a 85,000-square-foot building on 9 acres, has 112 rooms with 132 beds, said Genel Nichols of marketing.

Assisted living provides a private apartment for independent living with nursing and health aides to help with medical needs, Nichols said.

The rooms range in size from 380 square feet to 660 square feet with many of them overlooking the woods on the property. The rooms include a living room, kitchenette, bedroom and walk-in bathroom. Some rooms have a separate study and large walk-in closet.

Residents rent the apartments monthly. Although Medicare won't pay for the rent, it will pay for some therapies and skilled services, Nichols said. A long-term care insurance policy will help pay and some veteran benefits apply. Rent ranges from $101 a day to $156 a day but prices can change, she added.

The Gables of Hudson has three interior courtyards with each apartment opening onto a private patio. One courtyard is 200 by 90 feet while the other is 100 by 100 feet. Patients with dementia or Alzheimers have apartments opening into a 40-by-40-foot courtyard.

Some of the amenities include a large common area with a stone fireplace reaching the ceiling; a dining room with a fireplace; an auditorium that can seat up to 60 people with an 80-inch flat screen for movies; and a sports bar with three televisions.
