Hudson -- Ground has been broken on a $2 million family center addition to the rear of Seton Catholic School at 6923 Stow Road.
The 17,500-square-foot project will house a gymnasium, with a maximum of 300 seats, performing arts stage, sports heritage lobby, meeting and storage space and an outdoor pavilion that may be used as a classroom.
A formal dedication and ground breaking ceremony was Aug. 4 after a special liturgy in the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel. Construction began Sept. 3.
According to Bill Cushwa, Seton's development director, the $2 million project has raised $1.8 million through the contributions of individuals, families, corporate matching gifts, and regional foundations.
"We hope the project will be completed by the middle or end of March," Cushwa said.
"The Family Center project has been a vision of our Seton Catholic School Community and is becoming a reality through the generosity of our many donors. Together, as we broke ground for this expansion, we were committed to furthering Seton Catholic School's mission and history of spiritual development and educational excellence. This facility will notably expand resources for our entire community and is an important milestone in the growth of Seton Catholic School now and for years to come," said Mrs. Karen Alestock, Principal.
She said she was thrilled with the possibilities with the future addition.

According to communications director Patricia Fritz, Seton Catholic School was established in 1996 and moved to the Stow Road location in August 1997. The school has continued to grow and with the proposed family center the size of the facility will treble.
