Akron, OH – As part of its “Firestone Drives America” tour, Bridgestone Commercial Solutions (BCS) outfitted the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank’s fleet of trucks with 62 new tires, a majority of which came from the new Firestone-brand eco-products line. The donation is valued at approximately $26,000, and will help keep mobile units running for continued collection and support of Northeast Ohio residents.
This donation coincided with the Firestone Night celebration at Canal Park on July 16, which served as the tour kick-off. The Foodbank trucks are among the first trucks in the country to be equipped with these state-of-the-art tires, which provide fuel efficiency and reduce the truck’s carbon emissions.
For the Foodbank, these donated tires represent extra resources that can be allocated to help those in need.
“These tires will not only deliver savings to the Foodbank, but will also be part of delivering more than 20 million pounds of food to our community,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “Thank you to our friend and corporate partner Bridgestone for this considerable donation, and for assisting us in improving the quality of life for people struggling with hunger in our community.”
In addition to the product donation, Bridgestone teammates presented the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank with a $3,000 donation during the Akron Aeros game.
"The Firestone Drives America Tour kick-off event at the Akron Aeros game was a great success," said Matthew Stevenson, Vice President of Marketing, Bridgestone Commercial Solutions. “We’re honored to support the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and their mission to provide food to those in need.”
Akron was the first stop on the cross-country “Firestone Drives America” promotional tour. The tour will travel across the US introducing the new Firestone commercial truck tires to fleets and drivers, with more than 20 stops at various Minor League Baseball games this summer, as well as NCAA Football games in the fall.
