Hudson — Three local girls will dance with The Joffrey Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 in Cleveland.
Ainsley Blue and Caroline Jung, fourth-graders at East Woods Elementary, and Stephanie Scott, a sixth-grader at Hudson Middle School, will participate in five performances of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” by the Cleveland Orchestra in a collaboration with The Joffrey Ballet at the State Theatre in Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland.
This production of “The Nutcracker” includes more than 40 company dancers, 200 colorful costumes, and larger-than-life scenery.
This is the first time the three local ballerinas have tried out for the prestigious Joffrey Ballet company, which has performed at the White House and was featured on the cover of Time magazine.
“It’s an amazing opportunity,” said Ainsley’s mother, Annette Blue. “We’re very excited.”
Ainsley and Stephanie will be angels, and Caroline will be a doll in the performances.
Ainsley and Stephanie belong to the Kibler Dance Academy in Hudson, while Caroline dances with the Nan Klinger Excellence in Dance in Cuyahoga Falls. They have all been dancing for four years or longer.
“I’m proud of her and nervous for me, too,” said Caroline’s mother, Jenny. “It’s a big experience for us to have Caroline in this level of quality of ballet.”
Stephanie’s mother, Tonya, is also excited about the opportunity.
“It’s the Cleveland Orchestra and Joffrey Ballet. It will look nice on a future resume for her,” she said.
All three girls tried out after meeting height and dance training requirements. Rehearsals have been once a week but will increase to every night before the five performances.
“It’s time consuming, but it’s worth every minute,” Annette Blue said. “You’re downtown with the feel of a big-time ballet. I think she’s getting excited as the show approaches.”
The 2012 Holiday Festival begins with five performances of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” by the Cleveland Orchestra in a collaboration with The Joffrey Ballet
The performances mark the orchestra’s return to performing in downtown Cleveland during the winter season and the first time the Orchestra has ever performed in a full production of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.”
The ballet begins the orchestra’s 2012 Holiday Festival, which includes nine other concerts between Dec. 14 and 23.
