The visitors center at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Rd., Akron, is partially closed the week of July 28 for construction. A contractor for Summit Metro Parks is in the process of removing dirt from the underground structure and waterproofing the building.
Only the lobby and restrooms will be accessible during regular hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A 2008-09 renovation of the park focused on the interior of the visitors center, namely exhibits and space for programs, as well as the parking lot and entrance walkway, spokesperson Nathan Eppink said. “The current work is protecting that investment,” he explained.
With the dirt removal and waterproofing under way, last week the Board of Park Commissioners for Summit Metro Parks authorized staff to enter into an agreement with an architect to design a new roof for the building.
