Hampton Hills Trail repaired, reopened

Summit Metro Park on Akron-Peninsula Road was damaged from May storm

The shorter of two trails in Hampton Hills Metro Park is now open after crews completed repairs Thursday to sections damaged in the May 12 storm.

Starting from the park entrance at 2925 Akron-Peninsula Rd., Akron, the difficult 1.6-mile Spring Hollow Trail travels through ravines, over streams and is regarded as one of the most demanding trails managed by Summit Metro Parks.

The park’s longer 3.2-mile Adam Run Trail remains closed, as does the 1.8-mile Deer Run Trail in O’Neil Woods Metro Park, 2550 Martin Rd., Bath. Crews are hoping to reroute both using sustainable trail-building techniques and have them opened by year’s end. Bridges in both areas were destroyed, and whole sections of trails lost, last month.
