Programs offer cures

for cabin fever

Don't be caught with cabin fever this winter. Try one of Hudson Community Education and Recreation's many new classes, which include everything from ski trips to balloon school to getting started with retirement. Visit www.hudson.edu/hcer to register.


Tiger Cubs Golf (Ages 4-7): An introduction to the basic fundamentals emphasizing hand-eye coordination. Course meets Mondays Feb. 18 to April 1 from 5 to 5:30 p.m. at The Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls.

Winter Roller Skating (Ages 2-5): Parent and child roller skating class where parents can walk or skate along with their child. Includes 30 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes of practice time and games. Class meets Wednesdays Feb. 20 to March 27 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. at the Chagrin Valley Roller rink in Chagrin Falls.


Balloon School 101 (Grades 3-5): Join Mot Buchanan, balloon specialist, for a class that teaches the basics of balloon twisting. Class meets Thursdays Feb. 21 to March 14 from 3:50 to 4:50 p.m. at East Woods.

Junior Learn to Play Golf (Ages 8-12): Each student will progress through the US Kids Golf Level 1 booklet. Learn swing, chipping, putting, rules and etiquette, plus play on golf simulators. Program meets Thursdays Feb. 21 to April 4 from 5 to 6 p.m. A second class option meets Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All classes are at the Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls.

Explorer Day Trip to KSU Ice Arena Feb. 18: A Presidents Day trip to Kent State University Ice Arena for skating and lunch at Mike's Place. It is Feb. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes transportation to and from the event. Before and after care is available.

Ski trip to Holimont Private Ski Resort Feb. 18: This private ski resort offers all levels of terrain without the crowds. The trip includes transportation by luxury coach, leaving from Hudson High School at 6 a.m. and returning at 8:30 p.m. The discounted price is available until Feb. 4. For skiers in grades 6-12, adults and families.


How to Become a Secret Shopper: Learn how to make money shopping for things you already shop for like lunch, movies, gas or shipping, working with legitimate companies. Class meets Feb. 19 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Conflict is Not a Dirty Word (For Parents of Teens): Offers simple, but effective, tools for handling conflicts successfully. Class meets Feb. 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Adult Learn to Play Golf: This class is a complete overview of golf techniques - grip, stance and posture, fundamentals of the swing, iron and wood play, putting and the short game, as well as golf simulator play. It meets Tuesdays Feb. 19 to April 1 from 7 to 8 p.m. or Thursdays Feb. 21 to April 4 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. all at the Golf Dome in Chagrin Falls.

Making Friends on the Internet: Learn the secrets of Internet dating or just making friends online. Safety is most important, and the class will teach users how to watch out for scams. Learn about Facebook and Twitter, as well as how to explore dating sites. Meets Feb. 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

How to Start an Online Sales Business: Introduces the world of Internet sales on Amazon, eBay and Craigslist. Learn the fundamentals of how to sell items, how to set up an account, description, photos, pricing, payment (paypal), shipping options, returns and more. Meets Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Retirement Cautions and Concerns: This course breaks down complex retirement planning topics into three classes on Thursdays Feb. 21 to March 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Getting Started with Medicare: If you are approaching age 65, or just going on Medicare for the first time, this is an opportunity to gain a basic understanding of how Medicare works. Class meets Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Files, Folders and Drives Computer Class: Participants will learn how to name, rename, and save information on a computer. They will also learn how to organize this information into folders and sub-folders and to transfer information to other drives and disks (media). Class will also cover types of programs, file formats and file sizes. Meets Feb. 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Hudson High School.

Getting the Most from Your Smartphone: Learn how to use a smartphone to write a term paper, plan a trip to Disneyland, or to sell items from home, plus more. Class meets Feb. 21 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hudson High School.
